Lucion™ Technologies and Iron Mountain Partner to Offer PC Data Protection Solution through Retail Channels
Leading PC protection available for the first time at major retail locations
OREM, Utah, and BOSTON, Mass. — AUGUST 15, 2006 — Lucion Technologies, LLC, a developer of file management, automated document imaging and file protection systems and Iron Mountain Incorporated (NYSE:IRM), the global leader in information protection and storage services, announced today that they have formed a partnership to offer a PC data protection solution to small businesses, home offices and consumers via targeted nationwide retailers including Office Depot, Office Max, Best Buy, J&R and Microcenter. The solution will be marketed under the Lucion brand as FileBackup™ powered by Iron Mountain.
As small businesses and consumers make greater use of their computers for storing irreplaceable files, they need a way to minimize the risks of lost data. This partnership will provide users with the same automated, enterprise-class protection that some of the world’s largest corporations have long enjoyed from Iron Mountain, widely recognized as the premiere provider of data protection and recovery services.
File backup solutions have been around for years, but they typically miss the mark in that they are generally hard to use, require user interaction during the backup, and store files on a local drive or external media, where they are still physically close to the PC and susceptible to on-site disaster. Lucion FileBackup powered by Iron Mountain is an easy-to-use program that completely automates the process of backing up files and transfers the data to a secure Iron Mountain data center, where the information is always available for recovery. The program can be installed on any Windows desktop or laptop.
After a user selects the files to be secured, FileBackup transmits encrypted copies of the files to Iron Mountain, where they will be maintained at multiple off-site locations in some of the most secure data centers in the world. Each day, new and changed files are automatically backed up to the data centers without any intervention or interaction on the user’s part. Recovering data is as simple as browsing through an explorer view of the files in the backup set and selecting files to retrieve. Additionally, FileBackup keeps up to ten versions of a file at the data centers, and secures deleted files for up to 90 days.
“Users today keep so many kinds of valuable digital files – everything from customer information to financial documents and family pictures,” said Darin Hunsaker, CEO of Lucion Technologies. “There are multiple ways to lose valuable files, such as computer failure, viruses, human error – not to mention fire, floods and natural disasters. With FileBackup powered by Iron Mountain, consumers and small businesses can now benefit from world-class data protection at their fingertips in a simple, automated fashion.”
“We are very excited to team with Lucion to bring reliable PC data protection and recovery tools to a wider user base,” said John Clancy, executive vice president of Iron Mountain Digital, the technology arm of Iron Mountain. “This partnership is particularly significant because it marks the first time our solution has been made available at retail stores where consumers and small businesses often shop for their business and computer needs.”
